Review: Wet N Wild Photofocus Eyeshadow Primer

For my first post, I thought I would review one of the biggest staples in my makeup collection: this $5 eye primer.
Wet N Wild Photofocus Eyeshadow Primer

It might be hard to believe that a $5 eye primer could do (nearly) everything you could ever ask for, but it’s true. This product keeps my eyeshadow in place all day, from the moment I put it on to the time I take it off.

The product comes in a simple black and white no-frills plastic squeeze tube packaging, with the nozzle dispensing just enough primer per use. You get 0.34oz of product. It’s easy to use, and a little goes a long way – both eyes can be primed easily with an amount of primer comparable to a grain of rice.

The cap screws off to reveal the precision tip.

When squeezed out of the tube, the primer appears light pink in color, but as it’s blended out it eventually turns completely transparent. This primer dries down to a smooth, matte finish that will prevent oil breakthrough during the day and prevent eyeshadow creasing on the eyelid. However, that’s its greatest strength – if you’re looking for a primer to boost the vibrancy of your eyeshadow, this won’t do the trick. In that case, I would suggest looking for a more pigmented and tacky primer to apply on the eyelid before eyeshadow.

Left: Primer, fully blended at top, partially blended at bottom Right: Primer, unblended.

Overall, this is a product I adore. On my oily lids, I never experience creasing or oily breakthrough whenever I use this, and it’s a product that I’ve been consistently using for the last two years. I never wear eyeshadow without it!

The Breakdown

Longevity: 5/5
This will not budge until you want it to. I’ve worn this eye primer on all occasions, from an everyday eye look to my own wedding, and it’s always held steady for at least 8 hours of wear.

Pigmentation: N/A
The product blends out seamlessly to a transparent finish.

Value: 5/5
The price per ounce of this primer is $16.15. Considering how long this product lasts, I consider it to be a great value.

Price: 5/5
I cannot believe how cheap this is. Not only is this “good for the price”, but it’s a fantastic product in general.

The Verdict: 5/5

If you struggle with oily eyelids, I highly recommend this product. I think you would be hard-pressed to find a better performing product at this price point, and for $5.49 it’s worth a try.

Grab it from Amazon or Ulta. If you have it or try it, let me know what you think!
